
Fr. Derek Remus
Fr. Derek was born in Blairmore, Alberta on September 21, 1989 and was baptized at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Coleman. He grew up with his younger brother and sister in Warner and later Coaldale, Alberta. After completing high school, he went to Thomas Aquinas College, a Catholic great books college in Santa Paula, California, and graduated from there in 2011 with a B.A. in Liberal Arts. In August 2012, he went to Peru, where he spent six and a half months as a lay Catholic missionary. After returning to Canada in 2013, he was accepted as a seminarian for the Diocese of Calgary by Bishop Frederick B. Henry and began studies at St. Joseph Seminary, Edmonton. On December 23, 2017, he was ordained to the transitional diaconate by Bishop William T. McGrattan at St. Bonaventure Parish, Calgary. Following the completion of his seminary studies six months later, he was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop McGrattan on June 29, 2018 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. After his ordination and prior to coming to Lethbridge, he served for two years as Associate Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish, Calgary.
