CELEBRATE our GIFT of the EUCHARIST
June 11, 2023
- WALK the streets WITH JESUS. . .
June 11, 2023
“let us celebrate with particular devotion the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, with its traditional procession. Our faith in the God who took flesh in order to become our companion along the way needs to be everywhere proclaimed, especially in our streets and homes, as an expression of our grateful love and as an inexhaustible source of blessings”
Pope St. John Paul II 2005 Apostolic Letter Mane Nobiscum Domine
For many years, in many places, the Feast of Corpus Christi has been celebrated with outdoor processions. Processions are a very important part of our Catholic identity. We are a pilgrim people on a journey, a journey of growth in faith and self-awareness. We are called to be followers of Jesus, to walk with Him.
Once again, after a 3 year postponement, due to Covid, we will be resuming our annual CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION.
This is a great way for all of us, including children and families, to profess our faith and belief
in the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Processions will leave from both Our Lady of the Assumption Church (south side) and
St. Basil’s Church (north side - following the 11:00 am Mass) at 12:00pm (about 45 min to 1 hour walk) with a prayer stop along the way. We will end with Benediction at Catholic Central High School followed by a light lunch social and activities for the children.
Plan to join us for the whole walk or at the prayer stops.
Corner of 13th Street & 2nd Ave. North Side
Corner of Mayor Magrath Drive and 8th Avenue South Side
We encourage everyone to wear White and/or Red. We invite our children who have just made their First Communion or Confirmation to attend with their families and to wear their 1st communion or confirmation attire.
We will walk rain or shine. (If it is raining we will hold Benediction in the school cafeteria)
We look forward to many attending this event. If you cannot attend please pray for the success of the procession.
