Corpus Christi Procession
|
For many years, in many places, the Feast of Corpus Christi has been celebrated with an outdoor procession.
When we take the Blessed Sacrament into the streets we show people that Christ lives in the midst of our daily lives.

All Saints Parish Corpus Christi Celebration InformationCelebrate our gift of the Eucharist…Walk and pray for peace.
Celebration Date this year is Sunday, June 23.
For those who attended last year we are using the same format.
We begin with two processions – one from St. Basil’s and one from Our Lady of Assumption.
At St. Basil’s at the end of 11a.m. Mass the host is placed in the Monstrance which is then placed on the carrier. Those wishing to walk follow the procession moving south on 13th Street with a prayer stop at the corner of 2nd Avenue South before continuing to CCH. As you leave be sure to pick up a hymn sheet.
The Assumption procession begins with a prayer service at 11:45. Once the Monstrance is on the carrier we walk to Mayor Magrath Drive with a prayer station at 8A Avenue and then continue to CCH. As you leave be sure to pick up a hymn sheet.
If you are not attending Mass consider joining the south side procession as there is less traffic. Both routes are almost the same distance.
At CCH we will have Benediction on the field, weather permitting. In bad weather we will gather in the cafeteria. This will be followed by a social and finish with a fun activity for the young people. There is a playground and the older youth are invited to have a soccer or other ball game.
Buns, vegetables and refreshments will be provided. Additional finger foods – squares, cookies, fruit, extra veg would be a welcome addition. They can be dropped off at the church entrances or taken to CCH (after 12noon – use the front/18th Street entrance).
We encourage all to participate in all or any part of the celebration.
During the walk people are encouraged to sing or pray the rosary. This has always been spontaneous rather than organized.
Children are welcome and need to be accompanied by an adult. First Communicants are encouraged to join and wear their special clothing.
A limousine will accompany each procession for anyone requiring a ride. They will also provide transportation from CCH for those who have walked to return to their vehicles. Martin Brothers and Cornerstone generously donate these vehicles and drivers.
It is suggested that we wear white. Red is a second choice.
Other details and maps will be posted on the website and at the churches closer to the date.
Excerpt from a recent Fr. Kevin Cluttered Desk:
There are three major processions in the life of the church. including Corpus Christi: the Sunday after Trinity Sunday when we remember the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, Holy Thursday. A prominent aspect of this feast is the procession which is to follow the Mass…..The procession should be seen as a public declaration of a parish community’s faith……Processions are a very important part of our Catholic identity. We are a pilgrim people on a journey, a journey of growth in faith and self-awareness. We are called to be followers of Jesus, to walk with Him.
Often memories of the special times in our church life are what helps keep our gift of faith alive during the difficult times. Over the past 10 years many have identified Corpus Christi as one of those events as we celebrate this special feast with a procession. Remember you can join at any part of the procession – beginning, middle or end.
